Week 4

Monday 21st December 2009

Today was HOT! hottest day so far..

Awesome day... we delievered some Christmas Hampers, Education Packs, Hygiene Kits and Mozzie Nets.... I COULD DO THAT EVERYDAY.

It is a great way to remind us how lucky we are. Some of these peoples have hardly anything at all. The small amount we take them just makes them so happy and grateful...

We got alot done today but have plenty more to do and will continue the deliveries on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so they all have a good stock of food for Christmas Day...

Check out Gifts in Action Progress page for more photos..

Tuesday 22nd December 2009

Today was another busy day of the usual work and alot of work in the community.

We have a huge group of volunteers here at the moment so we are trying to get everyone to experience a bit of everything...

One of our past volunteers (thanks nicole!) had gone out into the community and met an old couple who were sleeping on a 1 x horrible bed base and also on the dirt floor so she had offered to pay for us to get some frames made and also some matresses etc.. today we delivered these to the them.. to be honest, she was a little frightened of all the white people but slowly began to warm to them... you can see the before and after in the photos below. I am now even more grateful for my wonderful life. Most of us just have no idea what little these people have.... ( me + community work = emo sarah)

Then we returned to see another family that we went to see the day before to give a hamper to. Serah and her mother were also just sleeping on a bed base so we decided to get them a couple of mattresses. Well, they were SO EXCITED when we returned yesterday when they saw the mattresses.. Mama Serah rushed to get everything off her old bed to make way for the new mattress... such a little thing to bring so much happiness...

One of our lovely volunteers here is also keeping a journal.. if you want a different view of MIssion in Action and someone elses experience here then check it out!

Diane, make sure you keep it innocent now!

Wednesday 23rd December 2009

It was only yesterday that Mary and I mentioned that we hadnt had rain in a very long time and that everything was looking brown... Well, last night it poured down! i have said this before, but will say it again...
Normally, when i am at home, i enjoy the rain.

But last night it poured and poured and poured rain from 3am onwards... all i could think about was the people in the village who had no where to live, or even the people in the village who lived in mud shacks that did not shelter them properly. Even though i was warm in bed i felt a huge amount of guilt and did not sleep well for the rest of the night.

Having said all that, it is good to have the rain as it has been dry and people are loosing too much of their food.

More deliveries today with the help of some of the volunteers... We have so many to get out before Christmas so some of these families can feast just like most people in the world on Christmas Day. They deserve this just as much as we do.

I had a dinner date tonight with Martha, Peter and Lillian... was a great night with too much food and a lot of screaming! wahhhoooooooo

Welcome to Nat and Luke who arrived today... Luke seems to be as traumatized as i am about the trip from Nairobi!

God Jul to my Swedish family and friends!!

Today is shopping day and Mary and I were dreading heading into town as it is Christmas Eve and complete madness... WE WERE RIGHT!

We headed in early to get it over and done with.. ugh... yuck... i will never complain about how busy Byron is ever again. A car FULL of food.. enough to feed all the kids and all the volunteers for the next week.. not an easy task!

We were meant to have a soccer match today between mzungus and africans... but it is again pouring with rain so i am not sure that will happen.

We will probably just work on the Christmas Songs we are teaching the kids for the 'Christmas Program' on Saturday. They learn so fast! Our kids are genius i tell ya.

The Vontrapps!!

Will you ever complain about doing laundry again?

25th, 26th & 27th December!

Merry Christmas!

The internet has been down since Christmas so i am shortening this entry into a few lines.

Christmas face painting, Christmas program at church and all community was invited... lots of food and singing.

We have wonderful volunteers here with us at the moment that made the day great for the children.

I will add photos to the community album and the Gifts in Action album as we have been very busy and still have plenty more to do in the coming weeks.
