Sarah in Nakuru

Week 6

Monday 19th November

Today was another busy day in the office here at MIA. We have a lot to work on and time is running out... We are also trying to prepare for MIA Christmas Party this weekend (as well as Ashleys 21st!!)

We headed into town after many long hours on the computer to do some things and show Mum around the local shopping area where everyone gets their clothes... She sure was impressed. Topped it all off with a cappacino at the famous Mzungu hang out... 'Sweet Mart' Also known as SWEAT Mart,

Its almost Christmas time and I am wondering if anyone out there wants to buy any Christmas Cards or Gift Cards?

Tuesday 20th November

Well, I spoke to soon... It was only yesterday I was saying to everyone how lucky and happy I was that i had not been sick yet as a lot of the other volunteers had been... I woke up this morning feeling really sick (flu). So, unfortunately i dont have much to report on other than spending most of the day in bed but luckily my Mama is here to get out there and do the dirty work for me!

Today she went along with Anna and Ashley to the local Piave dispensery to help out as it was 'mother baby' day. Ashley gave out needles to all the babies (she is going to be a nurse) and Mama and Anna helped out where they could.

Pictured on the left is little baby Margaret who was the very first baby born at Piave Dispensery... she sure is growing up.

Its a day ahead in OZ which means that there is a song i must sing:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR MAAAAAAAAAATE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
i love ya mate, see you soon.

Wednesday 21st November

I am a bad bad daughter. My poor Mama is sick.
She woke feeling terrible at 5am with a sore throat and shocking head ache just like I had the day before. I made her stay in bed all day to rest. She has been sleeping alot and just checked on her and made her some food, she is feeling better but is ready to go back to sleep for the night. Sorry i made you sick Mama... or maybe you bought the bug to me from OZ???

Everyday is getting shorter and my time here is really running out. I just cant stand the thought of being at home so far away from all these children and the people but i really hope that i will be back here this time next year. Its amazing how much of a bond you can make in such a short time. I have known of these children since the day they came to MIA and have followed their progress very closely. I love them all so much. Just like everyone else that comes here, its hard not to fall in love with them.

Anna and I fed our little 'magpies' this afternoon. They cry for the next mouthful before they have finished their last and are screaming for their bottle before they have a chance to catch their breathe from their meal. It is quite a funny sight...i have captured it on video and i will upload in to YOU TUBE with many others when i get home in a couple of weeks...

Thursday 22nd November

Today we spent most of the day in town getting items for our Christmas Party we are having on Sunday. We had to get goodies for the childrens goody bags and food for the party. I had to get last minute pressies for my extended African family as well..

My Mama was feeling a little better today, she came into town with us but she crashed and burned when we got home and she is now back in bed not well. I am hoping that she will be fighting fit by the morning as i dont want her to be unwell for her time here in Africa.

We had our last staff meeting for the year today and it was pretty much the same as last time but the staff did say a little bit more... no real troubles to deal with just wanted to thank the staff for a good year and to tell them to get ready to party on Sunday.

We have a new member of our family and we have named him Harold. He is a goat and he is here for our Christmas party on Sunday if you get what i mean. The masaais are feeding him well and taking good care of him UNTIL sunday ;-(

Our new friend Harold.

My sisters from another Mother... and Father... but still my sisters none the less.

Martha, Sarah and Lillian in town.

Friday 23rd November

An early start to the day today as we had to take young Zippy to the hospital for her monthly check up. She came to MIA some time ago now and she was a completly different little girl.

She has Aids and has to go to the hospital every month to see how she is doing with the anti virals and they weigh her, and see if they need to up or lessen her meds. Her check up to day went well and she is doing so so so well. You would not recongnize her if you knew her before. Click here to see her before picture.

Mama Sarah is still very unwell, spending all of her day today in bed resting. We have found her some great pills that seem to be helping her. With me, Martha and Mary caring for her she will be better in no time!

Saturday 24th November

What a day! Many exciting things happened today.....

Firstly, Mama Sarah is getting better!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

All the adults got to pick a child they wanted to take to church so most of us picked the little ones as the bigger kids get to go most weekends... the girls felt very special in their 'Tea Party Dresses'

A new member of the family was born... Our cow 'Daisy' had a baby cow. Man, i tell you what.. it was a sight to see. If i could sum it up in two words i would use RANK and also BEAUTIFUL. It was so disgusting to watch... the masaai's where pulling and pulling till they ran out of energy, then caught their breathe and continued until they pulled the calf out... then checked it was breathing, cleaned out its mouth, ears & nose like it was second nature for them... mate, these Masaais are legends.. they sure are champions at what they do. Just legendary... Then Mama cow got straight up and started cleaning the little one... i had a tear in my eye thats for sure (mate)

And last but definately NOT LEAST... we celebrated Ashleys 21st!!! We all went out to Merica Hotel for dinner (this is the first time i have been out at night time since i have been here.. you just dont do it...) it was a fantastic night and we all had a great time.
Happy Birthday Ashley.... you rock star!!! (see right, i mean left, i mean right?!!)

Baby just out, Masaai Andre checking its breathing and cleaning out its bits

Mama meeting calf for ffirst time.... so cute, this is when the tear appeared.

Sunday 25th November

WHAT A GREAT DAY!

Today we had our MIA Christmas party, It was a great busy day that was filled with so much fun, dancing and plenty of laughter (oh and food!!!)

We had about 120 people turn up and everyone had a wonderful time... We had lunch first, then dancing, games, presents, more singing and dancing and then to finish it all of tonight we had fireworks. Most of the kids loved the fireworks but there were some that just had no idea what was going on and freaked out...

These Africans sure know how to dance and sing so wonderfully, i just loved watching them today. The Masaais put on a good show as well and i will be uploading that soon so make sure you keep an eye out.

It is a special day for another reason today.. so here we go...love you jayde.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
