Sarah in Nakuru

Week 7

Monday 26th November

We were all very tired this morning after our big day yesterday.

The count down is on now for my final week.... its a matter of days now, not weeks and i am getting anxious... i dont want to leave these kids and i also have so much work to do!!

Our new visitor, Tammi, arrived here safely today and she is still sitting up as i type this! I cant believe she has not crashed and burned as yet... she is settling in well and getting use to the noise and chaos!

Another big job completed today... getting all the children to finish off all their paintings for their sponsors. It was alot of fun and they all did a great job. The sponsors have something to look forward to.

Tuesday 27th November

Today was a strange day for me. We had no power ALL day and i was unable to do ANY of my work and i felt lost. It was sooo frustrating... the power goes out all the time for no reason in particular.

It was good for me though coz it made me get away from work and i was able to spend some time with my chillies (children).... sadly it means that i will be up late tonight catching up but thats ok with me.

While loosing my mind today i went up to our general store to visit the lovely margaret and decided to buy all the staff a soda (they love the stuff but never buy it as its too $$$) it was a hot day so they were stoked.

Our speed bump signs are now up... and will be putting up the speed bumps really soon. Maybe this will slow some of the people down....

Wednesday 28th November

It sure is the month for birthdays. It was Rachel's Bday (Ivan and Marys daughter) and we went into town to have some pizza... it was great... my mother ate a whole pizza (1st time in her life) and I ate about 1 1/2 pizzas (not the 1st time in my life) It was delicious and i am still shocked that we have a local pizza joint around these parts....

After lunch i took our new visitor and my mama to the markets and also the market store (where you dont get hassled) my mama was ready to leave the markets after 3 minutes and had a massive head ache after it all... it is full on, i am used to it now and quite enjoy the pressure but it is very hard to imagine unless you are here.. it is much more aggressive than thailand or any other places like that. They are just on top of you.

We then went down to 'Tidieys' to meet Martha and her sister for a drink and some food... on the way there we got totally hassled by the street boys/men and my mama wasnt impressed! Tammi was lucky enough to get a marriage proposal from one of them but sadly for him she declined.

Thursday 29th November

A big day today for our lovely Diana. It was her 'Graduation' day at school and she looked so cute in her outfit. She is such a bright young girl. She speaks 3 languages and is basically the head of all the children here at the orphanage! She was given a present at school for always being in the top 3. She just gets more beautiful everyday.

We took all the 2 year olds out to town today for lunch. If i took one two year old out back home it would stress me out but these children where ANGELS. we took 10 of them into town and not one complaint at all the whole time. They enjoyed their 'chippies' for lunch and we had a great time with them.

Friday 30th November

What a great way to end my time in Kenya. We were up at the CRACK of dawn to head of to 'Nakuru Game Park'
I came here last time i was here but wanted to go again with my mama in the hope that i would see some Lions. AND DID WE EVER!
We had enjoyed our morning.at the park and had seen many animals... buffalo, wild boars, giraffe, flamingos, zebras, hyenas, hyrax, rhinos, ostrichs, monkeys and baboons... we had given up on the lions as it is not often that you do see any... we were about to drive out of the park when the attendant asked if we had seen the lions?
We asked them where they were and decided to turn around and go back and try and find them... why not...
About 10 minutes up the road we saw the lions and they were feasting on a 'kill' they had apparently killed their buffalo at about 5am and were still chomping away at 11.30am. We had front row seats and Ivan said that it was the best day he had had at the Game Park ever. We were so lucky they had their kill on the road as they could have killed it back in the bushes were we could not see but it was right out in the open for all to see. it was awesome. and also quite disgusting.
Soon, Mission in Action will be taking tours all over these areas... with their new company called Mission in Action Safaris... stay tuned for more details. less than 24hours to go...

This is rushed entry as i am busy packing (have exceeded my luggage by 24 kilos) finishing up computer work and wanting to spend time with the children. They are having a nap now so a short break.
