Please see below a brief description on each of our 10 for 10 projects and contact me if you have any questions at all.

1.New Shoes
42% of Kenyans live in abject poverty, existing on less than $1 a day. Any money they do have mainly pays for food.
MIA would like to provide shoes for those adults & children in the Nakuru community who have the opportunity to work or attend school.
If we are lucky enough to raise lots of money, we would love to see everyone with a pair of shoes!
Approximate cost of shoes....$10-$20 a pair (for brand new shoes)

2. Water Tanks
Mission in Action have been able to provide water tanks and guttering for some of the widows, elderly, handicapped and less fortunate in our community.  This eases the burden of them having to walk many kilometres to fetch water from the local river, by catching rain water.  To install and purchase a water tank and guttering on a house/shack costs approx $300.00

3. New Mattresses
A lot of us cannot imagine sleeping on the floor in a mud brick hut, subjected to all weather conditions.
MIA would like to provide mattresses for poor people in the Nakuru community to make their difficult lives a little more comfortable
Approximate cost of a mattress $15.00

4. Bedding
Providing bedding to those people who receive a mattress will ensure not only the comfort of the people, but the long term life of the mattress.
Approximate cost of pillow, sheets & a blanket $10.00

5. Food for those in Crisis
Quite often Mission in Action are called somewhere in the community to help someone in need. Often families go without food and water for days.
MIA would like to supply the neediest members of our community with the bare necessities at times of crisis.
$10 could buy a care package which will include 1kg rice, 2kg maize flour, 1kg beans, washing soap, cooking fat, 1/2kg salt and 1kg of sugar.

6. Medical Emergency
Kenyan people, who live in poverty, do not have access to health services as we know it. There is no government safety net and people have to pay for the limited services available.
MIA staff & people in the community often ask MIA for assistance.
An example of costs for a visit to the hospital is 25,000 KSH which is approx $350AUD
MIA would like to have some money set aside to assist staff & community people in a medical emergency

7. Clothing
Most of the income in poverty stricten Kenyan families is spent on food to survive. Clothing is not considered a priority and often adults & children wear what we would consider are rags.
They do, however, love it when they see their families well dressed and presented, just as we do.
An amount of $50.00 will outfilt a family of 4 people.

8. First Aid Kit
Mission in Action holds 'medical days' for the community where the people are provided with the opportunity to learn about health, nutrition & disease.
These seminars are well attended and people are keen to learn.
MIA would like to support the theory of learning by providing First Aid Kits to people in the community.
Each kit costs $15.00

9. Skills for Life
Mission in Action often meet women in the community who are widowed or who are raising there children on their own.
Your gift of a sewing machine gives a struggling mother the dignity of being able to provide for her children
by earning income with safe and respectable work.
Sewing machine costs $200.00

10. Staff Welfare
42% of people in Kenya exist on less than $1 a day. They have no $$ savings to assist in times of crisis such as taking time from work to attend a funeral or assist a sick family member.
MIA would like ot have some money set aside to assist staff to support their families at these times.
