For me to come to Kenya in the first place was something that had always been in the back of mind, especially since taking up a grade one teaching position in northern Melbourne where I have been privileged to teach many African new arrivals and become quite friendly with their families. For it to actually happen was amazing.

You were so welcoming Ivan when I first arrived. I want to thank you for your hospitality that you showed during my visit. Nothing was too much trouble and you were always willing to provide myself and the other volunteers with as many experiences as you could. I’m sure dinner time with 7 girls plus your own daughter and Martha was at times challenging! The stories you told us and opening up to us was much appreciated when I’m sure you had more important matters on your mind concerning your own immediate and extended family. The food was delicious; the atmosphere was warm, the sunsets magnificent!

The amount of experiences that I had in that month has provided me with such wonderful memories to last a lifetime. The animals, local community, local hospital, World orphan day, installing a water tank, seeing the school development, eye testing, visiting MIA 2, the biscuit run, meeting Martha and of course the most wonderful memory of all would be the time that I spent with your children who are the most beautiful, happy, innocent, non judgmental beings. I will cherish these memories like gold.

I was so delighted that although your family has been apart for such a long period of time, that  I was able to meet Mary during my time at MIA and share in that wonderful moment of surprise when she arrived and greeted the children. I have been following what your girls Rachel and Sarah have been up to via Facebook and was so pleased to read that Sarah has been given the all clear and will be home shortly. That you will all be together again is such a blessing for you all. I can only imagine what it must be like to give yourself completely to the lives of other children and have your own family torn apart for that long period of time. May this be a new beginning for your family in both health and happiness.

I’m sure that you will have a busy few months leading up to Christmas with the containers arriving and starting up the new school. I wish that I could give a year of my life to working at your school but at this time it is a dream that I will work on. I have already had so many people ask me about your orphanage and how they can help so hopefully you will see the benefits of this through more volunteers or money coming your way.

Thanks for your kindness during my stay. What magnificent memories. Please say hello to everyone.
I have attached a few of my favourite photos.
Thanks again
Kat

P. S. I am so impressed with all the wonderful work that Sarah is doing. The extent of her ideas and promotion of the Mission through the world of technology is an inspiration. <<< THANKS KAT!!!! x sarah x
