Mission in Action Nakuru Baby Orphanage is an incredible place never to be forgotten. From the moment I arrived in the grounds and was welcomed by those precious children I knew I was in a special place. What a wondeful, safe, loving environment to grow up in. I spent a month in Nakuru and loved every minute. From waking up in the morning and going to help with the brekkie preparations in the kitchen, peanut-buttering toast like never before, to singing praises in the morning worship. Feeding the babies and helping getting everyone dressed and shoed in the morning. I loved the walks the children went on too. It was a different route every day. One morning we would walk to the new school and another to the chickens and then the next to the mud huts and suddenly one of the children would break out in song and the rest would follow. I loved playing outside and pushing little ones on the swing or having running races and playing tug-a-war.
Lunch is like a military operation and is amazing. The food is wonderful and the kids love it. My favourite moment though is when we wait for everyone to be quiet and put their hands together to pray...takes a while but they manage in the end! Bath time is also something to be remembered, what a task to wash so many active little bodies and find jarmies that match for each person...it is possible!!!!
I would thoroughly recommend volunteering to anyone. Even though I set out to be a help and a blessing to the team and children out there, I think I was the one who was blessed the most. I LOVE kenya. Thank you for having me...I will be back.
